Sound Transit values the work of artists to make add richness to our passengers’ experiences and place our stations in communities. The Sound Transit Art Program (STart) develops works of art for most of its facilities, working in collaboration with communities to choose artists and make places that are valuable civic assets.
In 2011 Luca Buvoli was selected to develop artwork for the Roosevelt Station, applying for the project in response to a national call-for-artists competition. The selection panel of Roosevelt Neighborhood Association, Roosevelt High School, and Sound Transit staff chose Buvoli for the project based on the strength of his past work celebrating movement through drawn images and the relationship of the high school’s athletic fields to the station.
